Lux Helsinki 2013 filled the wintry Finnish city over the first weekend of January. Although precise visitor numbers are hard to calculate since the event was free of charge and spread out across the city, according to cautious estimates over 100,000 visitors participated in the event. Jukka Huitila’s light installation Variant Spectrum 2 lit up the Olympic Stadium Tower and could be seen from different parts of the city. This year’s Lux Helsinki event featured almost three times the number of light installations than last year. For the first time, guided walking tours were offered in connection with the event. The tours were offered in four languages and proved popular every day of the event.
Lux Helsinki 2013 attracted even more media coverage than in previous years, including from the international media. ABC News, The Associated Press, BBC News, Condé Nast Traveller, Frame, The Huffington Post and Travel Squire all covered the event. News of the event and its stunning light installations also spread rapidly on the internet thanks to the countless photos, videos, tweets and blog entries posted by the active visitors.
Lux Helsinki will take place again in January 2014.
